Young Civil Engineers
‘re-build Holmfirth’ at Schools Engagement Day

As a member of the Yorkshire and Humberside Civil Engineering and Contractors Association Indepth Civil Engineering were delighted when we were recently asked to take part in a full day of Civil Engineering activities for Year 5 and 6 pupils at Holmfirth Junior & Infant School in West Yorkshire.

70 students took part in the outdoor activities, which lasted from 9.00am – 3.00pm and they were provided with a real life brief of how their town had been badly affected by recent floods, which had resulted in a number of bridges being washed away, structures destroyed, water utilities disrupted and many residents of the town left homeless.

Their task throughout the day, was to take part in the construction of an aqueduct, two different bridges, a shelter building and a tetrahedron structure.

Jessica Bucknell acted as our company Ambassador for the day along with other Ceca and CTG members and thoroughly enjoyed helping to promote the industry to potential engineers of the future.
